Longevity of years filled with strength and vitality is what everybody wish for. However, from studies we have found that the life expectancy of residents in underdeveloped world is low when compared to those in developed nation. Statistics taken by “helpage.org” have it that the average life expectancy for a Nigerian is 52.11, a Kenyan 61.08 and an American is 78.74.
Citizens of developed nations are not left out as there as also been a fall in life expectancy as a result of obesity, cardiovascular diseases etc. This low life expectancy for both developed and underdeveloped nations can probably be pointed to a lot of factors. We have shortened them to four reasons and they will be reiterated below.
We Do Not Eat Natural Food
Food is defined as any substance consumed to give nutritional support for the body. Food could be natural or synthetic(artificially and industrially made). The truth is the body needs more natural food than synthetic to function optimally and give nutritional support for the body. A visit to a fast food restaurant or the food section in the mall will baffle you on how much junks we consume. We are all in this together, everywhere you look and check, you will find synthetic food such as cakes, doughnut, candy, pizza, ice-cream, carbonated drinks just to name a few calling for your attention at the cost of eating a well-balanced and nutritious food. The invention of genetically modified food is also a threat to eating a balanced meal. Imagine oranges without seeds, lettuce that would not rot even when exposed at room temperature for several days. The potential danger of this is that you consume food that are nutritionally unbalanced which poses a risk for obesity, cardiovascular diseases, heart attack etc.
Bottom line is that you should always ensure you substitute junk food with natural food like wheat, fruits, vegetables because in the long run, it helps in optimal health.

We are Far From Nature
Yes, been close to nature. Nature is very therapeutic and has a way of relieving a person of stress. With the migration of people from rural areas to urban centres, people can no longer enjoy nature because the urban area is congested, stress level is high, noise pollution, water pollution, carbon mono-oxide which is a very poisonous gas is released into the atmosphere in urban areas.
Lets picture a remote setting during our fore fathers time, after a stressful day at work, they usually stay under the tree to relax and relieve themselves from the stress of the days work. This little act of relaxing and enjoying nature goes a long way in ensuring best health.
Ask yourself, when was the last time you took out time from your busy schedule just to relax and enjoy nature?
We Do Not Exercise Our Body
Sedentary lifestyle is the major cause of many diseases plaguing our generation. We just don’t move around much. Picture this scenario ‘ a man wakes up in the morning, eats breakfast, uses the elevator(instead of the stairs) , rides his car to his office(instead of using the bus, train or walking depending on how far), uses the stairs to his office, sits at his desk for more than 7 hours, goes back home, sits on the sofa to relax and indulge himself in whatever delicacy that is available. The cycle goes on and on. Gradually, this man begins to see more flesh around his waistline, of course, he is already adding more weight. If this goes on without check such person can become obsessed.
We Do Not Communicate Effectively Again
Let me ask you two questions: is migration from rural areas to urban areas bad? Is the use of technology bad? In rural areas, there is a camaraderie amidst people in the community, family values are promoted and open communication is encouraged, everybody is a friend of the other. You hardly find anyone who is depressed because people in the community help others in solving their problems. This is the direct opposite in urban areas where everybody minds his/her business and care less about what the other person is going through. A lot of people have died untimely and unwarranted death because there was no one around to help them when they needed assistance.
Technology also has done some harm by substituting physical conversations with virtual communications. Naturally, humans are social beings. When we do not socialize in the right way we alter the state of things.
When we decide to eat right, enjoy nature, exercise our body and communicate effectively, life expectancy will increase for everyone because we will be relieving ourselves of the stressors and time-bombs that causes untimely death.
